What to Expect at Your Consultation

Before the teeth whitening procedure, you will need to meet with Dr. Li. This one-on-one consultation will allow Dr. Li the chance to discuss your dental history, overall health, and cosmetic goals. She will also examine your teeth to see if whitening is right for your smile. It is important to note that existing dental work, such as crowns and veneers, will not respond to conventional whitening agents. If whitening is the best option, Dr. Li will discuss your options and design a treatment plan to meet your needs.

Your Whitening Treatment

First, Dr. Li will polish your teeth with pumice to remove any plaque or buildup. Next, your teeth will be isolated with gauze to keep them dry. Retractors keep your cheeks, lips, and tongue away from your teeth while a barrier is then placed along your gums to prevent irritation. Dr. Li will coat the front of your teeth with the peroxide-based whitening solution. She will use a blue LED to activate the gel and accelerate the whitening process. Treatment lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on your needs. Once your teeth reach the optimum shade, the gel is rinsed away, and fluoride may be applied to help prevent any sensitivity.


